what i'm currently searching for 🩵

but first... what the hedge is this page?

this page is a living doc of (mostly intangible) things i'm currently seeking! to be clear, this isn't me asking anyone to go out of their way to hunt these down. it's more along the lines of, "if you happen to have [insert_thing] easily accessible, and you wouldn't mind connecting me with [insert_thing], i would be incredibly grateful."

this page exists because i've discovered that things i've spent months searching for often existed within or very close to my network, without my ever knowing -- and without my friends, acquaintances, collaborators, etc. ever knowing i was looking for [insert_thing] in the first place.

so, essentially, this is my attempt to make the invisible visible.

thank you for even just being on this page, it's incredibly kind of you!! and of course, feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions on why i'm searching for a particular [thing]!

sophie is currently seeking...

(in no particular order)

  • ways to get involved with ai safety!! i.e. organizations & researchers i could volunteer for

  • a republican to potentially co-host a podcast with

    • pref. strong writer, speaker, knowledgeable on political topics

  • literary agent contacts (specifically those specializing in children's books)

  • journalist contacts (always looking for these!)

    • bonus points if they specialize in any of the following :)

      • political polarization

      • environmentalism / climate change

      • Ukraine

  • contacts for anyone involved with Ukrainian organizations / Ukraine-related efforts in general

  • merit-based scholarship opportunities that can be used at Stanford

    • again, not asking for you to go out of your way! with this one specifically, what i'm envisioning is more like: if you somehow come across a scholarship on your feed, i would love it if you sent the link my way :)

  • a mentor!

    • i honestly don't have a very well-developed idea of what this would look like. i suppose when i say "a mentor," more specifically, i mean someone who has gone through similar things to me / is similar in general, but older and wiser and thus able to give advice on said things.

    • it doesn't even have to be that much older-- i'm a firm believe that even a year or two can make a huge difference in terms of development / life trajectory (i was a total mess my sophomore year, and although i'm by no means perfect now, i've certainly improved... if me as a sophomore could have talked to me as a junior, how things might have been different!)
